English Language Proficiency Test
BAFA is recognised as a test centre for English language proficiency in the aviation sector. The ELP Test (English Language Proficiency Test) has been developed in line with the principles and recommendations of ICAO. We called it further ELP@BAFA.
The ELP@BAFA consists of 3 subsections and is carried out by two assessors, the Operational Assessor and the Language Assessor:
- THEORETICAL R/T testing in the form of a multiple choice test
- Assessment of AVIATION RELATED, PLAIN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
- SCENARIO BASED R/T Testing
The assessment will determine the Candidate’s ability to:
(1) communicate effectively using standard R/T phraseology;
(2) deliver and understand messages in plain language in both usual and unusual situations that necessitate departure from standard R/T phraseology.
The Test evaluates proficiency in aviation English on the basis of six criteria:
The ELP@BAFA lasts 30 to 45 minutes in total. The above sections B. and C. are recorded on video and stored under the Candidate’s unique ELP@BAFA number.
The Operational Assessor greets the candidate in the ELP@BAFA Test room 1 and accompanies him/her to the test room. This small talk conversation already gives an extra-assessment view on the Candidate’s capability on INTERACTION.
At the end of the test, an overall score is determined (grades 1-6). Depending on the grade obtained, BAFA will issue a certificate, on the basis of which the qualification “Aviation English” can be indicated on the licence.
