First Officer Thomas Cook
Kenneth Peeters
When did you graduate at BAFA?
I started my training at BAFA in September 2002 and graduated in March 2005
How would you describe the course of your studies at BAFA?
Very good and very swift. The theoretical part was completed in just 1 year. The practical training depends mainly on your availability, although the Belgian weather is an important factor. For some missions you need an excellent forecast and that’s not always the case in
According to you what are BAFA’s strengths?
I thought the personal contact and the clear way of teaching was very pleasant.
During the theoretical part we were 14 in a group, which made it easier to handle the subjects on a more personal level.
How long did it take for you to find a job?
When I graduated the aviation business suffered from a crisis period. I started working at the airport with Flightcare, while I applied as a pilot with different airline companies. This way I gathered more experience on the operational aspects of aviation.
Finally I started as a pilot with Thomas Cook in September 2006.
Did you think the training was adequate enough to start working straight away?
Absolutely, with the European regulations, every school is closely monitored. This way you are guaranteed a good training to start with an airliner.
Seeing that there are many different types of aircraft, type rating is provided by the airline company.
Do you remember any anecdotes?
One of the things I will always remember is a flight mission to
Do you have any advice for the people wishing to start the training?
The main factor remains the motivation! When you’re motivated, it’s easier to bring up the energy to study and to successfully conclude your training. It won’t always be easy, but all pilots find the drive to pull through to get where they want to be…. the most beautiful office in the world.
Good luck!
