Instrument Rating
General
The IFR training programme is an intense instructional course that leads to the “IR(A)” qualification. This qualification gives the pilot the right to fly an aircraft that is equipped with the correct instrumentation up to a decision height of 200 feet in IMC conditions.
Target Group
This course is designed for holders of a PPL or CPL who wish to enlarge their knowledge and skills base with the Instrument Rating qualification.
Admission requirements
- Hold a PPL license with a Night VFR qualification or hold a CPL license
- Possess a Medical Examination Certificate, Class 1
- Have at least 50 hours of overland flying experience as aircraft captain
Structure of the training programme
Theory
The theoretical module is given in a DISTANCE Learning environment. The courses are studied via self-tuition in addition to a limited number of hours of "presence learning” or classical instruction to be followed according to the schedule below:

Persons who have already successfully completed the IFR or ATPL theory examinations may be exempt from following the theoretical module.
Practical training
The practical training can be started after the first IFR briefing. Practical and theoretical training can therefore be followed simultaneously and in parallel. The practical training module consists of:
- 18 hours of classical, practical briefings, including the completion of
- BAFA IFR Flight Training Handbook
- Instrument Flight Procedure Manual
- Jeppesen IFR Introduction Kit
- 50 hours of flying, 30 of these hours on the Simulator FNPTII and 20 hours in a Piper Warrior (Glass Cockpit)
Cost and payment method
The cost of the course as described above is € 13.200, including VAT. Included in this amount are: all theoretical and practical lessons, all briefings and all of the required study materials, such as textbooks, TMs (Training Manuals) and AOMs (Aircraft Operation Manuals). Not included are: Compensation for the theory and the practical examinations, examination flight and landings, approach and passenger taxes. The price stated above has been established based on the strict condition of a maximum average fuel price of €1,90 per litre, excluding VAT. If the actual fuel price exceeds this amount, a fuel surcharge will be billed separately.

The flight hours and the instruction are billed monthly for the hours flown in that month.

Possibilities of subsidies
