BELP Test

BAFA is recognised as a test centre for English language proficiency in the aviation sector. The BELP Test (Bafa English Language Proficiency Test) has been developed in line with the principles and recommendations of ICAO. The BELP Test evaluates proficiency in aviation English on the basis of six criteria:

  • Pronunciation
  • Structure
  • Vocabulary
  • Fluency
  • Comprehension
  • Interaction

The test lasts around 30 minutes. Before the test, candidates receive a test guide which explains how the test is organised and what type of questions will be asked, so that the candidate will be prepared when he starts the test. During the test, questions are asked by means of a computer, in both textual and audio form. The candidate answers all questions orally. A specially trained professional rater marks the answers in line with ICAO recommendations. At the end of the test, an overall score is determined (grades 1-6). Depending on the grade obtained, BAFA will issue a certificate, on the basis of which the qualification “Aviation English” can be indicated on the licence.
